Vastu is basically the system of design, architecture and sacred space that plays a pivotal role in balancing your house on the basis of five elements. It includes

  • Earth
  • Water
  • Air
  • Fire
  • Space

Point to be noted here is that above-mentioned elements are distributed in a strategic manner throughout the nine zones of your house, namely, north, northwest, northeast, south, southwest, southeast, west, east and center.

You can apply these routines to an existing house but are tailor made to a house designed for Vastu.

When it comes to designing a house through Vastu, one of the most important things that you need to do is to buy a lot with a rectangular or a square shape. As Vastu is all about developing a divided space and balance, odd shaped lot is not a good option.

Another important thing that you need to do is to develop a nine square mandala, taking into consideration your lot shape.

Take the help of a compass in evaluating true north and other directions on your property. Use of map is not advisable in this regard.

It is always a good idea to place your entrance in the Northwest Square or north.

With regard to your living room, it is recommended that you place it behind your house entrance.

Your bedrooms should be on the south portion of your house.

Your bathrooms should be located in the west or northwest.

Your kitchen should be in the northwest or southeast.

In an ideal scenario, make sure that your centre square is open. Identical to a Roman villa, a centre garden is an excellent solution for the use of this space.

When dealing with Vastu, it is advisable that you take the services of an expert who can help you in designing your house.
